Faded Cherry Gibson ES-345 (2010-2010)

Although owned by Fraser A Gorman, this guitar was used by Joey in the earliest known King Gizzard show at the RMIT performance exam on October 29th, 2010.

Sunburst Fender Telecaster (2010-2010)

This is a pretty unknown guitar in the band’s history with its only appearance being on November 21st 2010 at Generator Party #3. Although Joey may have owned this guitar, it was likely owned by Eddie Alexander of Goodnight Owl/Love Migrate as he can be seen playing a similar Telecaster during live Goodnight Owl performances from 2010.

Candy Apple Red Fender Stratocaster (2010-2011)

This guitar is one of Joey’s earliest known guitars and was used for most Goodnight Owl performances and a few notable early King Gizzard shows such as their TV appearance on “The Temperature’s Rising”. Joey purchased this guitar from a music store he worked at with all his coworkers telling him not to buy it, though he still did as he wanted a Fender guitar. Its first known appearance at a King Gizzard show was for the Forte Magazine 500th Issue party at the Geelong Gaol on February 12th, 2011 and was used at most eventually stolen sometime before August 1st, 2011.

Coral Red Yamaha SG-3 (2011-2018, 2023-2024)

1960s Cherry Gretsch 6135 Corvette (2013-2013)

This guitar currently only has one known appearance, which was during the recording session for Head On/Pill on February 9th, 2013.

Cherry Burst Godin Dorchester HG (2014-2024)

Danelectro 12SDC 12-String (2014-2014)

Owned by Jay Watson (GUM), this guitar was only used once by Joey at a show at The Toff In Town on March 29th, 2014. While GUM did open for King Gizzard at this show, it is unknown why Joey used this guitar during this performance.

Modified Microtonal Telecaster (2016-2017)

Modified to record songs on the Flying Microtonal Banana, this was Joey’s first microtonal guitar and was named the “Jason brand Foot model” due to the words taped on the body and headstock of the guitar. It was created from a “$300 AUD guitar” and had a “gaffer” bridge, which Joey briefly described about when he was showing off this guitar during the “Peeling the Flying Microtonal Banana” documentary. It was only used live for a very brief time, starting on November 25th, 2016 at Gizzfest Brisbane 2016 for the live debut of Rattlesnake. Afterwards, it was solely used for Rattlesnake at the end of most of the shows following the Gizzfest debut, but starting on January 21st, 2017 at Laneway Festival the band would add Nuclear Fusion and Sleep Drifter to their setlists with this guitar being used for those songs as well. It would continue to be used at the band’s remaining Laneway dates this year, with the guitar having quite an infamous fate during a performance February 5th, 2017. While the band were performing Nuclear Fusion, the guitar reportedly fell apart with Joey telling Premier Guitar that “parts were falling off and the bridge started disintegrating”, although no photo/video evidence is known to exist to confirm the claim. After this incident, no pieces of the guitar were ever seen again.

1965 Burns Short Scale Jazz (2017)

It was first seen at the band’s Primavera Sound set on June 1st, 2017 where it would be used for all non microtonal songs in the band’s setlist from that point on, replacing the Yamaha SG-3 that Joey had been touring with since 2011. Starting on November 18th, 2017, it was tuned to C# standard to perform Crumbling Castle and would stay this way for the remaining shows this year, including all Gizzfest dates. The final time this guitar was used was during a performance on December 11th, 2017 and has not made another appearance either live or in the studio since.

Gibson SG Faded T (2018-2023)

This guitar is somewhat notable in the band’s history as it was seen at almost every show the band played for almost 5 years straight until it suddenly disappeared from performances mid-tour. It was first seen at the Croxton Park Hotel on February 18th, 2018 and would go on to be used for all songs in E Standard tuning at every performance the band played from 2018 to 2020. Aside from being used for The Lord of Lightning during two shows at The Croxton in the beginning of the band’s first “Micro-tour”, it took a slight break from live appearances until returning on October 30th, 2021 at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl and would be used for almost every following performance the band played until the band’s second EU/UK tour in 2023. After a performance of Work This Time on August 27th, 2023 in Madrid, the guitar suddenly stopped being used for an unknown reason and wasn't seen again at any of the remaining shows that year, with it being replaced by Joey’s Faded Flying V until reappearing a single time at the band’s Teatro Coliseo show on March 14th, 2024. It was then fully replaced starting on the band's EU 2024 tour where he would begin using the Novo Idris which he still uses to this day.
