Songs > Her and I (Slow Jam 2) > History

Opening to the sound of The Rolling Stone’s 1968 song “Country Honk,” the final song of I’m In Your Mind Fuzz is the album’s sweetest. “Her and I (Slow Jam 2),” much like the first Slow Jam, is lyrically simple with heartfelt declarations about marriage and love. Unlike “Slow Jam 1,” however, this song expands into a longer jam with multiple progressing sections and unique production, becoming the longest track on Mind Fuzz. It’s also one of Stu’s favorites as indicated by the band’s 2022 Reddit AMA. While once dormant in the band’s catalog, the song has grown longer and more intense, becoming a showstopping highlight of several shows.

The song debuted on 2014-02-09 at St Kilda Foreshore in Naarm (Melbourne) alongside most of I’m In Your Mind Fuzz. The setlist for this show as well as a performance from 2014-05-07 indicates that the working title for the song was “Angel,” a word taken directly from the lyrics. To our knowledge the song was only played a handful of times in 2014, with one being a part of a short acoustic medley of both Slow Jams from 3RRR.
The song was recorded by Paul Maybury at A Secret Location in Melbourne, with its mix being done by both him and Stu. It was released on October 31st, 2014.

The song would then see a nearly four-hundred show gap, reappearing on 2020-01-27 at Albert Park in Auckland as a nearly thirteen-minute jam. “Her and I (Slow Jam 2)” would then be played two times before the COVID-19 pandemic, reappearing after the lockdowns as an acoustic jam for the band’s all-acoustic performances on 2021-12-13 and 2021-12-19.
“Her And I” was played throughout 2022 as a longer jam, hitting up to twenty minutes in length, before becoming less common in the following years. In an interview with Relix from 2023, Stu mentioned that the Slow Jams returned to the sets because they were easy to play with little rehearsal needed.
