Songs > I Gotta Rock 'n' Roll > History

Taken from the 1998 album Teenage Hate, “I Gotta Rock ‘n’ Roll” is a distorted, lo-fi punk song by The Reatards. Inspired by ‘50s rock songs, the track is a fast and tight piece that clocks in at only a minute and sixteen seconds. Jay Reatard and his bands were a known influence on the rough garage sound in the early years of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.

The earliest reported performance of the song was on 2012-09-08 at The National Hotel in Geelong. The first confirmed appearance, however, was on 2013-01-24 at The Corner Hotel in Naarm (Melbourne), with the last known performance being on 2013-02-08 at PBS Studios in Naarm. Their cover of the song is faithful to the original.
