“Pop In My Step” is the only Cook Craig-penned track on Float Along — Fill Your Lungs (released September 27th, 2013) and is a short and carefree song with an upbeat tone and self-assertive lyrics. It was the first Cook-led King Gizzard track to be released, paving the way for songs like “The Garden Goblin” and “Down the Sink.”

The song was performed a few times in August of 2013 during full performances of Float Along — Fill Your Lungs, with its first reported appearance on 2013-08-21 at Bar Open in Naarm (Melbourne) and its first confirmed appearance on 2013-08-22 at the Goodgod Small Club in Eora (Sydney). After a performance on 2013-08-29, the song was retired with only one known performance post-2013, that being 2018-11-29 at The Tivoli in Brisbane.
While the song has gone missing, a bustout has been discussed. “Pop In My Step” may have been planned for 2020 based on Joey’s “Sea of Trees” playlist and before the debut of the music video for the GUM/Ambrose track “Ill Times,” Ambrose said that Gizzard might revisit the song in 2024. That said, in the live chat before the debut of “Le Risque” Stu said that Cook was “not keen” on playing the song again. Despite being a potential bustout, “Pop In My Step” was not played in 2024, though other Float Along tracks like “Mystery Jack” and “God Is Calling Me Back Home” did reappear.
