The only single from Tropical Fuck Storm’s Satanic Slumber Party was “Satanic Slumber Party Part 2 (Midnight In Sodom)” — a song about a sleepover gone horribly wrong after using a ouija board. The song name drops a number of mythical and biblical figures (Pandora, Pazuzu, Barbatos, Gomorrah, etc) and creatures (lamia) on top of a chaotic instrumental including elements of what would become “The Dripping Tap.” It was released as the second track on Satanic Slumber Party on March 14th, 2022, and was later included on Hat Jam on April 11th, 2022.
Fiona Kitschin described the background of the song in a press release for the EP. "King Gizz were up at our house a while ago, recording their album Fishing For Fishies with Gaz. Then after a long day recording and a few too many drinks, the Gizz guys and us all wore hats and recorded a very long jam, which we called ʻHat Jam.ʼ Gizz took ideas from the jam and made up a new song called ‘The Dripping Tapʼ and Tropical Fuck Storm took the ʻHat Jamʼ recording and turned it into Satanic Slumber Party. Itʼs four guitars, three drummers, two synths, bass, harmonica, electronic sax and lots of singers and silliness. Itʼs like ʻLove Shackʼ by the B-52s except itʼs evil.” The ‘Hat Jam’ itself was released on King Gizzard’s demo releases (specifically volumes three through five) as early versions of “The Dripping Tap.” “Midnight In Sodom” is largely based on the second demo found on Demos Vol. 4: Music To Die To. That said, the beginning of the third demo provides the basis for the verses. A radio edit of the song also exists and is shorter than the studio version with a fade out at the end.
A music video for the song, directed by Nina Renee, was uploaded on March 13th, 2022. It starts in black and white and shows the members of Tropical Fuck Storm in outfits from the early 1900s around a table with a ouija board. They decide to summon a spirit with the board, which colorizes the video. Stu, Cook, Cavs, Lucas and Ambrose are then shown as ghostly figures with Joey depicted as a floating head. They proceed to haunt Tropical Fuck Storm while dancing around before turning the band into various things. Erica Dunn is turned into a teddy bear, Gareth Liddiard is given the head of a crocodile, Lauren Hammel is changed into a dog wearing a spider costume and Fiona Kitschin dances around seemingly possessed. After some footage of the ‘Hat Jam,’ we see that Tropical Fuck Storm have now become spirits just like King Gizzard and they dance and sing together.
“Satanic Slumber Party Part 2 (Midnight In Sodom)” has never been played live.
