Songs > Scared of Christmas > History

Fans have often joked about the possibility of a King Gizzard Christmas album, but the premise has been rejected by the band. “I’m sorry guys, we don’t have current plans to make any unintelligible Christmas album…” Stu said during an interview with Anthony Fantano. “I hate religion and consumerism. Christmas is the ultimate, like, fusion of those two things, so, you know, unlikely.” Even Cavs has mentioned the unlikelihood of such a release. The holiday has made scant few appearances in their discography, notably in the track “God Is Calling Me Back Home,” but Stu’s distrust of the holiday would be put into the title of what is their only explicitly holiday-related number: “Scared of Christmas.”

The song, written by Stu, was first heard as part of an unannounced live stream on September 2nd, 2020 where the band played various demos and unused material. Originally fans labeled the track as a demo for the Flying Microtonal Banana song “Melting” but when it was officially released as part of Demos Vol. 2: Music To Eat Bananas To on October 1st, 2020, it was given its official title.

“Scared of Christmas” has not been played live.
