Confidence Man’s song “SICKO” was born from recording sessions out near Melbourne. The Brisbane dance group had stumbled onto the track’s groove but weren’t able to make it work until further sessions in London where it became something more. Singer Sugar Bones said to Apple Music “we really just wanted to push that dark, creepy, kind of sexy angle. If you wanted the perfect setting for this, you’d be strutting down an alleyway and there’s thousands of photographers peering out the buildings, taking photos of you from the stories above, and you are just looking so damn good.” The track is reminiscent of ‘80s and ‘90s industrial music with its heavy beat and Trent Reznor-esque vocals.
King Gizzard and Confidence Man first crossed paths with the release of Butterfly 3001: a remix album of the band’s 2021 release Butterfly 3000. Confidence Man would remix the song “Interior People” to create a pop track reminiscent of ‘00s rave hits.
Their remix album 5AM (LA LA LA) was announced on April 7th, 2025 with articles highlighting King Gizzard’s involvement on the “SICKO” remix. It would be released a week later on the 18th, making “SICKO (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Remix)” their first remix since their take on “Nothing Left To Hide” in 2013.
Their remix is much more upbeat than the original with fast piano samples, pulsating bass and pitched up vocal samples alongside Sugar Bones’ usual vocal takes. The song also briefly incorporates the chorus melody of “Am I In Heaven?” during its intro.
“SICKO (King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Remix)” has not been played live.
