Acoustic Set 1: Theia, Ambergris, Rats In The Sky, Sad Pilot, Flight b741, Mirage City, You Can Be Your Silhouette, Straws In The Wind, Pleura > Automation, Nuclear Fusion, Honey, Minimum Brain Size, Rattlesnake, Billabong Valley, Crumbling Castle > The Fourth Colour, Her and I (Slow Jam 2)
A show that starts at the peak of a mountain but ends on a bit of a sloppy note. The opening Theia might be the greatest acoustic performance by the band thus far. It was a surprise, played well, and had great jams that went to Wah Wah and Motor Spirit. All of the tracks from Flight b741 were also fantastic. After that the band really started feeling loose like they usually do with their acoustic sets, goofing off and cracking jokes. From "You Can Be Your Silhouette" through "Minimum Brain Size" the band played a number of microtonal acoustic debeuts which were exciting and fun with lots of crowd interaction and banter. From Rattlesnake onwards though the show took a turn for the worse. The band kept up the goofiness and fun with the crowd but started really showing signs of inibriation with sloppy playing and singing, with songs coming to a complete full stop as the band got lost from one another resulting in confusion and breaks in the music. An unfortunate ending to a show that started on such a high peak.
My 17th and favorite King Gizzard show so far. The most intense and intimate night of music I've ever experienced. Theia was 'peak gizzard' in a classic way but Crumbling Castle was what this band is all about. The moment when Stu gets all shy and the show almost ends only for him to go 'No come on guys we got this' and for them to pull together and finish the setlist. Unreal. A band that never stops challenging themselves and is creating a work of art bigger than anything I've ever seen. It's no single song or album or performance or show. The work of art is the band. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, forever.
I really dug the acoustic set but from Straws on I wish it would have been electric. Setlist was outstanding. They are really kiling it this tour. Theia was a lot of fun and I really like Ambergris. The new songs are starting to work their way into my subconcious.It cracked me up watching the security try to keep up with the boys as they randomly made their way through the crowd. It was like they thought someone was going accost the band. I guess it would help if the venue staff had a bit more information on who it is that is playing.
They made that kid's day (and night) when they let him start off Nuclear Fusion.
Can't wait for Edgefield and the Gorge!
